What’s in my bag: cabin bag edition!

Being a frequent flyer means there’s a certain check list for cabin bag. If you’re anything like me and need to be constantly entertained otherwise you notice your legs wriggling and you’re tapping everything that will make a sound (yes pray I have entertainment if you’re sitting next to me) then you’ll probably want to give this a read!

1. Phone

Okay. Yep. Obvious one but it’s what’s ON the phone that really matters. I pack my phone with games I can play offline (usually Candy Crush etc) which tends to distract me when the planes taking off or landing because its my least favourite part of travelling.

Spotify!

I don’t go anywhere without a bit of uplifting music. My playlist is called ‘What would Mum listen to?’ because she’s honest to god the best music influence I’ve ever had. She doesn’t show it but she definitely went to some gigs I’d be willing to sell an organ to go to.

The best bit though is the fact my new phone has an awesome camera on it and if I’m lucky enough to get a window seat, I get some pretty amazing shots!

Amazon Books

It’s just easier sometimes than carrying a massive chunky book with me. Sometimes flights are the only time I actually read a book. Don’t get me wrong, I love a physical book but carrying everything with me when I drag half my life with me twice a year isn’t the easiest thing to do.

2. Amazon Fire

I use this purely to watch Netflix. Occasionally I will read from it but I find my phone easier to hold.

I tend to download one movie and a few episodes of a series I’m watching. If I’m not watching any series in particular than I opt for a bit of Friends.

3. Earphones

Unfortunately I need two sets of earphones. One for my phone and one for my Amazon Fire. They are top of my list because without any of these I can’t do most of the above!

4. Colouring pencils/Journal

I can’t draw, I don’t claim to even be somewhat talented when it comes to drawing but doodling often stops my legs from wriggling so they’re a must!

I like to write lists in my journal so that tends to take my mind off stuff for a while.

5. Medication

Seems quite paranoid but you never know if you’ll start with a headache or period pains or ANYTHING.

I don’t mind flying and it doesn’t make me worry in any way but quite often the stress of people and the fear of being late kicks in and it either effects my head or stomach so I’ve always got paracetamol, ibuprofen and imodium handy!

6. Sunglasses

Depending on what time of the day you fly, there’s always the chance of catching the sun. It’s a nightmare if you can’t see a thing due to it so it’s always best to have a pair handy.

7. Layers

Ive been on planes and had the sweatiest pits of my life and been on planes where I’ve been so cold my lips are blue. I always make sure I have clothes to put on or take off especially when some people demand the air con to be in full blast but they don’t want it to be directly on them so instead they face it directly on you 🙄❄️

8. Water

Stress, tiredness, too much coffee = water. Although it’s a nightmare when you need to pee on the plane, it is good to stay hydrated as travelling can be long and exhausting.

  1. Very useful checklist there – good to read before I have a weekend away next week. I am terrible for forgetting head phones, it’s the worst when you are travelling alone! Melis x

    1. Absolutely! I’ve done it before and ended up basically looking at the ceiling. In fact I forgot them this time round and had to go to WHSmiths and pay extortionate amounts for a below average pair 😂 but I just needed it!

  2. Phone is always a must, need to get those obligatory cloud and sunset shots in. I always take a travel size notebook with images like mandalas and that on in case I get bored of Netlfix and Spotify.

    1. That’s a great idea! I do have an adult colouring book somewhere but last time I took it on a plane, the turbulence was so bad that it made me colour out of the lines and that was stressful enough 😂
