How do you plan on spending your next birthday?
Probably on an aeroplane. I’m heading back to the UK and the flight falls on my birthday and my friend will be taking me to go see Russell Howard!
I don’t want a lot of fuss any more, I used to be a birthday lover but being half way between 20 and 30 has really bothered me more than I ever thought it could so age is now not to be celebrated 🙈
What gave you the motivation to Blog?
A friend of mine said my writing was quite funny when I was telling her a story through messages and she said I needed to write these stories so I started blogging. I don’t actually think I’m great at writing when I have to plan it so I can lose motivation to blog from time to time and lose focus on why I started in the first place!
How do you deal with Homesickness when you’re in Corfu?
I try to remind myself that it’s just a flight home. It’s like getting a train or bus home when away at uni. I can still get home just as quickly if I ever needed to come back. It’s also not so bad as I sort of have a Corfu family too and that makes it seem less difficult.
WhatsApp video chats are always good too!
What particularly do you miss the most?
When I’m in Greece I miss how easily everything can be accessed. There are shops everywhere and everything is walking distance so I miss my freedom sometimes!
When I’m in UK I miss the lifestyle in Greece. Everything is more laid back and having less is so much more out there. Plus the warmth, I really miss beach days and trips to different cities and towns!
How did you and the Greek lad meet?
I was working for a kids club in a hotel and he was a pool boy and he introduced himself and I started chatting away and he was nodding and smiling but understood NOTHING which was highly embarrassing. We went out for a drink where we were spotted by loads of others who worked at the hotel and they kept referring to him as my boyfriend so it just kind of slowly slid into a relationship from there. No grand gestures, just a lot of gossip and rumours that ‘the blonde kids club girl’ was with a pool boy!
What is something that you’re looking forwards to in the next 12 months?
Definitely Russell Howard. I’ve waited years to see him! Also me and my brothers are going to see the Darkness in December and it’s going to be AMAZING.
What made you decide to move to Greece?
I was in a pretty steady relationship which is nice but there was no adventure in my life and I realised after a while that I just wasn’t happy in the relationship at all. So we split up and less than a week later I was on a train to London for my first interview to move abroad. I wasn’t actively searching for Greece, it was just the place I was assigned to! Corfu specifically 😁
If you could start over, would you still choose to move to Greece?
Yeah I love Greece a lot. A decision that I didn’t make turned out to be the best decision I didn’t make. It’s an amazing place.
If you could only eat pizza for the rest of your life, what would you put on it?
Chicken Tikka Masala. I just bloody love it.
How did you feel the first days you arrived in Greece?
Kinda scared, the hotel I was living in wasn’t open yet so it was just massive empty corridors and it was COLD because it hadn’t been occupied all winter. I kept telling myself… Give it three weeks. Three years later I am still there!
Also I felt even more socially awkward than usual, I just felt so nervous I felt like I was behaving weirdly 😬
Obviously all those feelings changed once the season started!
What are 3 of your favourite things in Greece?
I don’t even know how to narrow that down without being totally vague. The people for one! My boyfriend and his family are amazing and all my friends out there just really make it a special place to live.
The food. There is just so much food and it’s almost always fresh and tasty!
The weather. Not even particularly the sun (although I do love being warm!) but there’s some epic storms out there that make me really excited.
What are 3 of your favourite things about living in the UK?
My dog. He’s just my favourite living thing in the whole world no matter how grumpy he can get.
(p.s. Don’t worry he lives with my mum so I’m not abandoning him for 7 months at a time!)
More opportunity. Jobs/careers are much easier to find in the UK.
Proper bacon and a finer selection of cheeses. I’m not even sorry, it’s true.
Favourite savoury food in:
UK: Sweet lord that’s too much of a decision. Probably Indian food. But if I was to go traditional British food I’d never say no to a good hearty soup.
Greece: Kontosouvli. It’s basically chicken or pork slow roasted on a spit and then peeled off the bone and its so soft and tender 😍🍖🤤
Top tips for maintaining a long distance relationship?
Make plans. Plan something exciting for when you’re reunited! Have a day where you’re thinking – this long distance is SO worth it.
Don’t text/call every 5 minutes. You run out of things to say. Save some important things for face to face or when you know you’re going to have a long phone call.
Keep living your life. Don’t be tempted to spend your time sitting around waiting for them to text or call or to see them. Do fun things to make the time pass! Life doesn’t wait for you.
I wanted to do a Q&A as I’ve been very few and far between with my blogging in the past few months and there’s possibly a few new followers that don’t know me at all or have never seen a blog post from me! I promise I’m going to have a lot more time over the next few months and I’m excited to share more and read more blogs!
So if you’re new here, welcome! Say hi 😊
